notes

I finally got round to watching Hostage last night. It was actually an alright film, with some iconic action moments like. Below are some of my favourite one-liners. Classic. Some Trivia, the word fuck is used 89 times throughout the film.

typo/graphic posters

typo/graphic posters

I originally found this site through facebook. Typo/graphic posters is basically platform for inspiration and promotion of good design through the poster culture.

They focus exclusively on typographical and graphical posters, those that challenge type, colours and shapes to express a message (eg. a film perhaps?). It is a curated gallery with a graphic design point of view. each poster is reviewed to meet a standard in visual qualities and functional efforts.

Rather than promoting design work in a "what's new" blog format, we form a collective platform of designers that conceives posters with a strong focus on typography and expressive graphical compositions, with the intent that it inspires others.

Finally they believe that quality is generated by consuming quality.

The website is full of beautiful type posters

I love the minimal colour and stock they use, yet they don't lose their high impact.

Studio Brief 03: alternative movie posters

alternative movie posters

is a site where illustrators/designers/amateurs whoever can submit their 'alternative movie posters'. I often buy alternative film posters from sites like etsy. Below are a few I particularly like, they're pretty clever. I love the clear concept behind it. I looked into ones with a minimal colour palette as I will only be working with two colours plus stock.

This is an amazing film and poster, designed by Tom Cross. Wot a guy

unsuccessful viral campaigns

unsuccessful viral campaigns

A viral marketing campaign can prove to be one of the most successful strategies for increasing brand exposure and gaining a steady number of natural links from typically authoritative sources. However, it’s never as simple as releasing a company video or just dancing in public, and for every successful campaign, there’s a heap load that either didn’t gain attention or actually had a negative impact on the brand

This website shows a lot of unsuccessful viral campaigns, such as Microsoft failing to wow.

research: successful viral campaigns

successful viral campaigns

I thought I would do some research into successful viral campaigns.

Tippex: Bear & Hunter (Part II)
Building upon a successful campaign in 2010, Tippex's sequel allowed you to type in a year and see the Hunter and the Bear appear in different time zones, it fun and interactive.

The Guardian: The Three Little Pigs
Giving a classic tale a modern twist, The Guardian's take on the story of the Three Little Pigs was ingenious and shows just how much modern media has changed.

Melbourne Metro: Dumb Ways To Die
As Air New Zealand earlier proved, safety videos don't need to be boring. Yet not only did Melbourne Metro make its video entertaining, it created a catchy song that will be stuck in your head for days.

NBA: Color
One for the basketball fans, the NBA got the game's five biggest stars to perform "Carol of the bells" using only basketballs, and they do a surprisingly good job of it.
