Critical Feedback

The critical feedback I received to today I found very useful.  I felt I presented my letters well in front of the group, and the general feedback was positive and gave me new ideas, as I found I was beginning to struggle with ideas about how to take my ideas and letterforms further. I also gave feedback to other peers in my crit where I felt helpful. Here is a list of things that were suggested  to me that I should try out and improve on:

  • DEPTH:  looking at placing my letterforms in water and taking photos from above to create a water depth.
  • DEPTH OF FIELD: not being able to see something, making things look further away or to close.
  • LAYERING: using materials (tissue paper?) to create layer and depth to my letterforms
  • DESPAIRING TYPE: From my research I really liked the idea of 'in the depth of despair' and playing around with the idea of despairing letterforms.
  • MARBLING: An idea was suggested that I experiment with different marbling techniques, such as swirling ink/spray paint into water and placing my paper (with the letterform on) into the water to create a marble effect, thus giving my letterforms more depth.

Now, I feel I can begin to use different materials and experiment widely with my letterforms and I have a lot of new ideas to work on over the coming week before my final crit on Friday.
